Jamie Mattox: Colloquium
My Journey Into Teaching
I was able to attend Hinkley Elementary School from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Four of those years, I was part of the school's bilingual program, which ended up having a large impact on my own classroom and teaching style. I graduated from Barstow High School in 2001 and attended Barstow Community College directly after. I transferred to Park University but took a break in my education while I tried to figure out what exactly I wanted to do. I got married and had my boys and worked part time as a paraeducator while I raised my babies. When my younger son started Kindergarten, I went back to finish my Bachelor's Degree at Park. I graduated with my B.S. in Social Psychology when my youngest was promoted from Kindergarten. After substitute teaching for a year and a half, I had the opportunity to teach my own classroom as long as I got myself into a credential program. I was able to teach my own Kindergarten classroom at Skyline North Elementary while attending Azusa Pacific University. I earned a teaching credential as well as a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Learning and Technology in May of 2018.
